What is Dexos Oil?

The Dexos D Oil Equivalent
Dexos makes the most impact when you are driving a GM vehicle. When not driving a GM vehicle, you might look for something that best serves the other engine type. GF-6 is quite a well-known oil that ILSAC has manufactured. As the equivalent of Dexos D oil, GF-6 is also the latest version.
And there are also two specifications of the Equivalent:
- GF-6A serves 0W20, 0W-30, 5W-20 and 5W-30. 10W-30 was a part of the list of its applicators. But not anymore due to some quality factors that the manufacturers have acknowledged.
- GF-6B serves 0W-16.

Testing to find the Equivalent:
Dexos has some strict restrictions in terms of tests, so when the bench test passes, that is just the beginning. To test GF-6 as an equivalent to DexosD then, you have to undergo the following tests:
- Sequence IIIG: A engine hygiene test done by a Chrysler engine
- Sequence IVB: A wear test is done by a Toyota engine
- Sequence VH: A low-temperature sludge test done by a Ford engine
- Sequence VIE, VIF in GF-6B – A fuel economy test done by a GM engine
- Sequence VIII – Corrosion test with a single-cylinder engine.
- Sequence IX – LSPI, low-speed pre-ignition test done by Ford engine
- Sequence X – Chain wear test done by a Ford engine
European Equivalent As for European auto brands, ACEA oils can undergo similar tests but require different engine tests. ACEA is starting to use the tests GF-6 goes through. So it is somewhat closer as an alternative to Dexos oils as the differences in their examinations are getting bridged.
